Panties Lunch (This is a copy/paste post- but I don’t care…Please help and share)

• WHY: Girls in South Sudan stop attending school after puberty because they don’t have underwear or hygiene products. Come see new video and hear Deb Dawson, who spent nearly four months of the past 13 in Kenya and South Sudan, tell more about this and other issues affecting young women in South Sudan.

Ways You Can Help

This ongoing program provides panties and reusable menstrual supplies year-round to girls in Duk Payuel and neighboring villages, enabling them to stay in school at puberty. Girls in these villages have nothing to protect them during their menstrual cycles. They drop out due to embarrassment, or because they have fallen behind when missing a week of school each month. ASAH has delivered more than two thousand pairs of underpants and 1000 sanitary pads to Duk and distributed them through the local church and at schools in two villages. Recommended sizes for panty donations: GIRLS sizes 4 to 16 or Women’s SMALL (these girls are tall but VERY VERY thin).

If you sew or are a member of a sewing circle, menstrual pads make a great project. ASAH has gratefully received donations of these supplies and delivered them to Duk with the help of local midwives who educate the girls on their use. PATTERNS and INSTRUCTIONS. From our experience, the CIRCLE pads have some particular advantages–less leaking and easier to wash and dry. Be the first to sew some BELTED pads for us to bring to South Sudan. These can be used even if a girl or young woman doesn’t have underwear. But any and all types of pads are welcome and used.

IMPORTANT–As important as the actual underwear is to the recipient, we can’t get them there without your CASH donations. The costs of shipping to this remote area are high.
